Sleep Apnea Testing
We leverage your insurance!
If you’re experiencing constant fatigue, loud snoring, or waking up gasping for air, you may be dealing with sleep apnea.
For many, the hardest part isn’t living with the symptoms—it’s not knowing what’s causing them. The uncertainty can feel overwhelming. But you’re not alone.
At Breathe Sleep Center, we understand how challenging it can be to face the possibility of a sleep disorder. That’s why we’re here to guide you through the process with empathy and care.
Sleep apnea testing is the first crucial step toward understanding what’s happening while you sleep and getting the treatment you need to finally wake up feeling refreshed.
Why It’s Important to Test for Sleep Apnea
Sleep apnea is more than just snoring or feeling tired—it’s a serious condition that can have long-term effects on your health if left untreated.
Undiagnosed sleep apnea has been linked to a host of health problems, including:
Heart disease
High blood pressure
Stroke
Type 2 diabetes
Weight gain
By testing for sleep apnea early, you can address these risks before they become more serious.
In addition to protecting your overall health, diagnosing and treating sleep apnea can dramatically improve your quality of life.
Testing helps identify the type and severity of your sleep apnea, allowing for personalized treatment that will have you sleeping better and feeling more energized throughout the day.
Why Choose At-Home Sleep Testing?
We understand that visiting a sleep lab and spending the night hooked up to various machines can feel daunting. That’s why we work with testing facilities that offer the convenience of at-home sleep testing.
This type of testing allows you to complete the sleep study in the comfort of your own bed, surrounded by the familiar environment of your home.
Benefits of At-Home Sleep Testing
Comfortable
Convenient
There’s no need to schedule an overnight stay at a sleep clinic. At-home testing works around your schedule
Non-Intrusive
With fewer sensors than a traditional lab test, the at-home option is less invasive while still providing reliable results
Affordable
At-home sleep testing is often more cost-effective than in-lab studies and is covered by most insurance plans.
By choosing at-home sleep testing, you’re making the process of diagnosis simpler, more comfortable, and less stressful.
How At-Home Sleep Testing Works
Initial Consultation
During your first visit, we’ll discuss your symptoms, medical history, and sleep patterns to determine if an at-home sleep test is the right option for you. If so, we’ll help you get setup with a testing partner who provides you with a portable sleep testing kit to take home.
Sleep Testing Night
On the night of your test, you’ll wear the device while you sleep. The device typically includes a nasal cannula, which is placed in your nose to monitor airflow, a chest sensor to track breathing effort, and a small finger clip that measures blood oxygen levels. Unlike lab studies, there’s no need for dozens of wires and sensors.
Return the Device
After your testing night, you’ll return the equipment to our office. Then a sleep specialist will analyze the data collected.
Results and Diagnosis
We’ll schedule a follow-up appointment to discuss your results once your data has been reviewed. If sleep apnea is diagnosed, we’ll work with you to create a personalized treatment plan.
What Happens After Testing?
After your at-home sleep study, we’ll take the time to thoroughly explain your results and what they mean for your health.
If you’re diagnosed with sleep apnea, rest assured that effective treatments are available. Based on the severity of your condition, we may recommend treatment options such as:
Oral Device Therapy
A custom-fit oral appliance designed to keep your airway open while you sleep;
CPAP Therapy
Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) machines deliver a steady stream of air to help you breathe easier at night;
Lifestyle Adjustments
Changes like weight management, positional therapy, or reducing alcohol intake may also be recommended to complement your treatment plan.
Our team will work closely with you to decide the best path forward, ensuring your treatment is comfortable, effective, and tailored to your needs.
FAQs About At-Home Sleep Testing
Is At-Home Sleep Testing As Accurate as In-Lab Sleep Testing?
Yes! While at-home testing isn’t recommended for every type of sleep disorder, it’s highly effective for diagnosing obstructive sleep apnea.
It provides the necessary data on breathing patterns, oxygen levels, and airflow to determine if sleep apnea is present.
What if I Can’t Sleep With the Device On?
Most patients find the at-home testing devices far less intrusive than the equipment used in a sleep lab. If you’re concerned about sleeping with the device, we’ll give you tips to help you get comfortable.
How Long Does It Take To Get Results?
It typically takes a few days to analyze the results once you return the testing device. We’ll schedule a follow-up visit to discuss your results and next steps.
What if My Results Show That I Don’t Have Sleep Apnea?
If your test results indicate that sleep apnea isn’t the cause of your symptoms, we’ll explore other potential causes and treatments for your sleep issues. Either way, we’re here to help you get to the bottom of what’s affecting your sleep.
